St. Bede's On the Move
International Dinner Gala
Launches "Operation Phoenix"
At St. Bede's
For the ecclesiastical year of 2007-08, the Bishop's Committee of
St. Bede's, Syosset, has launched "Operation Phoenix" with a gala Italian themed Dinner, which was held on Saturday, November 3rd. With strong support from volunteers of Last Hope, the Long Island animal rescue group for whose events St. Bede's makes its space available, St. Bede's was able to raise $2,123 as seed money for Operation Phoenix.
Facing the challenge of rebuilding its rectory following this past winter's devastating fire, St. Bede's has launched an ongoing series of fund raisers ("Operation Phoenix") to supplement the insurance proceeds and make possible the rising of a restored rectory from the ashes of the old. A portion of all monies raised through Operation Phoenix events will go toward the restoration of the church's fire loss,
the balance will go toward outreach.
The November 3rd Italian dinner is but the first of many events under the Operation Phoenix umbrella. Given the very small membership of St. Bede's and its currently being "between rectors," the parish is fortunate to have the strong support of "friends of
St. Bede's." Among those friends are groups who themselves benefit from the presence of this church in the community: the residents at Cold Spring Hills where St. Bede's Eucharistic Ministers conduct two Sunday services each week, the AA, the Faith Korean Presbyterian Church, Last Hope, and the Prince of Peace Church all of whom use the
St. Bede's facilities.
